Overview
This is a step-by-step course designed to introduce students to the world of digital sculpting and 3D character and object creation using ZBrush. The course provides a practical foundation for understanding ZBrush’s interface, sculpting tools, brushes, digital clay, models, and professional sculpting workflow.
Students will begin by becoming familiar with the ZBrush interface, navigation, canvas, document setup, and essential tools. They will learn how digital sculpting differs from traditional 3D modeling and how ZBrush allows artists to shape and refine highly detailed forms.
The course gradually introduces core sculpting techniques, including working with brushes, manipulating digital clay, adding and removing material, smoothing surfaces, creating sharp edges, and developing primary, secondary, and tertiary forms. Students will explore important concepts such as symmetry, proportions, anatomy, surface detail, and controlled sculpting.
Additional topics include Dynamesh, SubTools, masking, selection, subdivision levels, Polygroups, and essential workflows for managing complex sculptures. Students will learn how to develop forms progressively, from simple base meshes to refined and detailed digital sculptures.
The course also introduces detailing techniques for creating textures, wrinkles, patterns, pores, and other surface characteristics. Basic materials, lighting, rendering, and exporting will help students present their completed sculptures effectively.
Through practical exercises and complete sculpting projects, learners will develop confidence in working within ZBrush and understand how to approach digital sculptures systematically.
By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation in ZBrush and the practical skills needed to create, refine, detail, and present digital 3D sculptures.
