Overview
This is a step-by-step course designed to introduce students to digital drawing and painting using Procreate on the iPad. The course provides a practical foundation for understanding Procreate’s tools, brushes, layers, colors, and creative workflow while developing the ability to create digital artwork from the ground up.
Students will begin by becoming familiar with the Procreate interface, Gallery, Canvas, gestures, document settings, and essential tools. They will learn how to create and manage canvases, choose appropriate sizes and resolutions, and work efficiently using the iPad and Apple Pencil.
The course gradually introduces Procreate’s powerful brush system, including brush selection, brush settings, size, opacity, pressure sensitivity, stabilization, and customized brushes. Students will explore essential drawing and painting techniques such as line work, sketching, coloring, blending, shading, textures, and detailing.
Layers and layer-based workflows will be explored in depth, including layer organization, opacity, blending modes, masks, selections, transformations, and adjustments. Students will also learn how to use colors effectively through palettes, color selection, gradients, and basic color relationships.
The course covers practical illustration workflows, from initial sketches and rough ideas to refined and finished digital artworks. Students will also explore text, simple animation capabilities, time-lapse recording, and exporting artwork in different formats.
Through guided exercises and complete projects, learners will develop confidence in using Procreate creatively and efficiently.
By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation in Procreate and the practical skills needed to create, refine, and export digital illustrations and artwork on the iPad.
