Overview
This is a step-by-step course designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of creating effective, memorable, and visually meaningful logos. The course focuses on understanding how a logo communicates the identity, character, and purpose of a brand through simple and purposeful visual design.
Students will learn the essential elements of logo design, including shapes, lines, symbols, typography, color, proportion, balance, contrast, spacing, and visual hierarchy. The course explores different types of logos, such as wordmarks, lettermarks, symbols, combination marks, emblems, and mascot-style logos.
The course also introduces the creative process behind professional logo development, including understanding a design brief, researching a subject, identifying visual concepts, generating ideas, sketching, simplifying shapes, selecting appropriate typography, and developing a consistent visual direction.
Students will learn how to transform rough concepts into clean digital artwork while considering scalability, readability, simplicity, versatility, and visual consistency. Practical exercises will demonstrate how logos can be adapted for websites, social media, print materials, signage, packaging, and other applications.
The course also covers presenting logo concepts, creating variations, preparing final artwork, and organizing logo files for different uses. Through guided exercises and complete projects, learners will develop both creative thinking and practical logo-design skills.
